The St. Louis Blues are one of the best teams in the Western Conference this season and while they have plenty of talent on both ends of the ice, one thing that usually makes them a tough team to beat is that they never stop fighting.
And they showed their resiliency once again today on the road against the New York Islanders where they came back from behind, tied the game near the end and battled through overtime and shootout to come away with a much needed 4-3 win away from home.
The Blues have a good performance from their group of forwards and they have carried the team this season, being effective and stepping their game up especially when they are trailing just like it happened today. The Islanders got off to a quick lead thanks to early goals from Thomas Vanek and Kyle Okposo, but instead of burying themselves in a hole, the Blues came back and answered with two scores from Vladimir Tarasenko to even things up.
The Isles got themselves to another lead in the second period, but the Blues pushed forward and continued putting pressure, getting their prize near the end with a goal from T.J. Oshie with less than 30 seconds left in the third period. St. Louis was much more effective in the shootout round and got a huge win away from home that maintains them near the top of the Western Conference.
The Blues will continue battling for a playoff spot and they have showed time and time again that they aren’t easy to beat. The Islanders surely know that right now and the Blues seem poised to make a deep playoff run if they can maintain their fighting spirit down the stretch.
